Most people judge something based on mistakes they make. I tend to see things based on surprisingly correct statement people make or inspire. These quotes are often the most embarrassing Christian verses. However, these are the one that I think were the most influential words for the world in general.
These are words, mere words, backed with no political power, said by a mere short lived engineer (or carpenter) that change the world more than any emperor and king ever did with all their army and influence.
So here they are:
1. Luke 22:25-27 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
This is the foundation of free market capitalism. The greatest among us are those who provide the best service to the most customers. Not those who tramples hapless others on their heel. Civilizations raise and fall based on how well they properly align people’s interest to their common interests.
2. Matthew 13:12 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
Foundation of business. Do your best to use chance God gives to you today because the more you have, the more you will have even more. Those who understand that we live in an abundance world and share the job profitably with those around them will be cash magnet that will attract more and more wealth. Those who do not understand will never see this truth and curse wealth for the whole of their life.
Morale: Our world tend to be self correcting, but most influential things work in positive feedback fashion. This one is also called Matthew’s effect in explaining why some outliers people earn all the money in any field. They somehow can concentrate all their talents at one point and build successes upon successes. Lose momentum and everything will crumble.
3. Matthew 21:21 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.
Morale: This is the reason why tyrants and usurpers go the extra mile censoring our opinion and speech. This is why pens are mightier than the swords. When people believe something they bet on it, when they bet on it they count on it, when they count on it they make things happen. Hence, beliefs do change our reality big time. If you want to change the world, you do that by changing people’s beliefs starting from yours. From racism, monogamy, communism, facism, and religions. All have changed the world merely by changing our beliefs.
Often the mountain moves to the wrong sea, due to stupid faith. If women prefer the rich, how can there be any kid with poor dad? It’s because we under estimate women’s preference for the rich that we prohibit prostitution. All due to Christians’ stupid propaganda insisting that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, preference to reproduce, and wealth, produce the same number of kids. Beliefs change which Nash equilibrium that’s focal. Beliefs, mere beliefs, change the world more than any other.
All these doesn’t mean Jesus is God. Many of his words may just be mere regurgitation of common sense among politicians, like all religions are. However, it does mean that bible is written by really really smart guys.
